Kristin Bauer (Pamela Swynford de Beaufort) attended the Onyx and Breezy Foundation’s Saving Tails fundraiser in Los Angeles last week. The foundation is dedicated to supporting facilities that help provide medical care, research and other efforts to further benefit animal welfare. A tireless animal activist herself, Kristin was spotted arriving at the event looking lovely as always! Enjoy the photos below:
Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pamela Swynford de Beaufort) recently spoke with Pop Sugar to promote True Blood Season 6, talk about her documentary Out for Africa, and about the events that lead up to her now long and successful career in acting. She didn’t reveal anything specific regarding season 6 but the interview is a great one anyway because she talks about her character, the show, her love of nature and more! Watch:
The necklace Kristin is wearing in the interview can be purchased from Cadsawan Jewelry. The proceeds from it will support Out for Africa.

The Powerful Women in Pop Culture panel was the first True Blood related panel of Comic Con 2012 for me. It featured the lovely Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pamela Sywnford de Beaufort) who was joined by Lucy Lawless (Spartacus), Anna Torv (Fringe), Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead), Nikki Reed (The Twilight Saga), and Kristin Kreuk (Smallville/Beauty and the Beast).
Going into this panel, I was really excited to see how it would go. The group of women assembled for it are extremely accomplished both in terms of the characters they play on television and in their lives outside of the show. While the panel turned out well, I thought it could have been better. It seemed to me that there was a disconnect during the panel between the characters the actors play and the actors themselves. A lot of the questions posed to the panelists were general for the most part and in a setting where this group of people worked with one another a lot or knew each other, general questions would have been fine because they could have played off one another.
But I got the feeling that while each of the panelists knew of each other’s work, they didn’t know each other well. So I thought it would have helped if some of the questions provided a bit more context as to why Entertainment Weekly felt that these women were powerful women in pop culture. I myself didn’t necessarily know why other than assuming it had something to do with the characters these women play on television. However, just because they play powerful women on television doesn’t necessarily mean the actors consider themselves powerful women in pop culture personally. And from the way the questions were posed to them, it seemed like Lynette Rice was trying to elicit why their characters were powerful women in pop culture and why they themselves were women who kicked ass.
However, without specific examples given by the moderator, there were some awkward moments. But the best moment had to be when Kristin walked out wearing part of the infamous yellow sweatsuit.
The yellow sweatsuit Pamela Sywnford de Beaufort (Kristin Bauer van Straten) wore in the True Blood season 5 premiere has become infamous. So infamous in fact, People Magazine recently named it as one of the least sexiest looks of the season. The outfit, which was presumably borrowed from Sookie (Anna Paquin), is a change from the corsets and bondage outfits Pam is usually dressed in. The actress admitted this at last week’s Comic Con International 2012:
“Usually things are tailored to make me look better, but this was tailored to be a little short and elastic around the legs and then the yellow was dyed slightly off.”
So who came up with the horrible yet fabulous outfit? True Blood costume designer Audrey Fisher of course! van Straten had nothing but praise for the designer:
“It starts with the writing, with that brilliant line — the Walmart line — and then when we go to a wardrobe fitting, Audrey Fisher is a genius…“So it’s just Audrey! She’s responsible for the whole Pam look.”
But apparently yellow sweatsuits aren’t the only thing that leave an impression. Actor Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte) remembers another Pam outfit that was quite memorable:
“I was bedazzled. I got to do one scene in Fangtasia with Alex [Skarsgard] (Eric Northman) and Kristin … She was standing behind Alex in the red sequined jumpsuit, and I haven’t forgotten it. I was distracted the whole time.”
And the influence of Pam doesn’t stop there. Rutina Wesley who plays Pam’s newly turned progeny Tara Thornton has also been receiving wardrobe help from the fashionista vampire:
“I have a feeling that Pam … took me to her closet and sort of made me up. My mother called me Monday and was like, ‘That bustier was wild, honey! Yeah!’”

In the last several months, Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pamela Sywnford de Beaufort) has been talking a lot about elephants and the rise in ivory poaching. The issue is not only important to Bauer van Straten as a tireless animal rights activist, it also happens to have a very personal connection. Because of her marriage to South African musician Abri van Straten, Kristin was given a connection to Africa and to a family that has been working to save the lives of elephants, rhinos, and other African wildlife for many years.
This connection as well as continued involvement with International Fund With Animal Welfare (IFAW) inspired Kristin to want to do more than simply lend her voice to this cause. In collaboration with IFAW, the actress plans to take a film crew to Africa for a documentary called Out for Africa about ivory poaching. The documentary will interview people on the ground who are working to combat the problem on a daily basis and shed a light on just how much it has affected animals in Africa.
But Kristin can’t do it alone which is why she has launched a Kickstarter project to fund the documentary with lots of fun incentives thanks to the cast of True Blood. There are signed EW magazine covers from cast members, phone calls, Skype chats, google hangouts, posters, wrap gifts, and memorabilia waiting for those of you who decide to back the project! As of this post over $5,000 has already been pledged with a goal of $30,000 by August 19th. You can pledge your donation by going here. If that’s not enough to sway you watch this heartfelt video from Kristin below:
Kristin Bauer van Straten recently sat down with E! Online to discuss her character Pam’s relationship with Eric (Alexander Skarsgård). The two characters recently broke their formal maker/progeny bond in “We’ll Meet Again” after Pam spent the previous episodes reflecting on how she was turned by her maker. So what will that mean for the characters? Kristin tells writer Christina Dowling that the writers didn’t say much:
“Well basically they just don’t tell us anything. We’re going to have to see and evolve. The nice thing aboutTrue Blood and HBO is they don’t wrap things up, so this will carry over into next year as well. It evolves more like a relationship in life. So we’ll see. Pam is trying to find herself without that umbilical cord.”
So now that Pam is without Eric, will that mean she’ll be a little more nurturing towards Tara? Maybe not:
“You know she’s not the most nurturing. We’ll see glimpses of a softer side…it won’t last long.”
What will last however are the effects that the Authority are having on the vampire world at large. This and trying to figure out what Tara’s (Rutina Wesley) relationship with Pam will be constitute Kristin’s season:
”We are now moving into the havoc the Authority is wreaking. A lot of my season has to do with that, and try to find this new way in this new world. And also dealing with this ball and chain called Tara. That I would have preferred to have killed, but now she’s my child.”
As for what it was like having to film a post-cotial love scene with Alexander, Bauer van Straten reveals it was touch scene to pull off but she survived:
“There’s always a hundred takes. I saw his naked ass get out of bed many many times. It’s very strenuous.”
The most common qestion Kristin gets asked is what is Skarsgård really like. Of her co-star and good friend, she says he’s better looking, sweeter, and funnier in person! Aww! Click the image to watch the entire video below:
